My Tango Journey in Vancouver
Link to email me
I started dancing tango in London, England in the Spring of 1993. On my first night I met my first legendary teacher Carlos Gavito. His influence on my dancing lasted for years.
I came to Vancouver in September 1995. We did not have milongas here but luckily I had phone numbers to connect with dancers in Seattle. They had 2 milongas a week then, Friday and Sunday evenings. I drove 5-6 hours back and forth several times on Friday or Sundays for 2-3 hours of dancing. Crazy, huh? That's what I thought!
I started first regular Milongas here in a Greek Restaurant called Panorama on Commercial Drive in January 1996. Since then I organized several milongas, workshops as well as hosting several workshops with tango masters from all over the World. I taught the first Close-Embrace lessons and workshops after my first trip to Buenos Aires in 1998.
I performed tango dancing at a number of international festivals including at the most prestigious tango festival Milongueando in Buenos Aires, partnering his teacher Susana Miller. Probably, the first non-Argentine performer in this festival.
As a Tango DJ, I am passionate about the "Golden Age" era and only play the best music of Buenos Aires with unforgettable tangos, valses and milongas. I also DJ-ed at tango festivals in North America and Europe.
I started a family in 2014 and after taking a break from active tango life, I am now excited about offering private lessons and workshops again.
