Guest instructor Francis Nowaczynski hails originally from Montreal, Quebec. He has been active in the Vancouver tango scene for over a decade during which he has been a teacher, milonga organiser and through El Centro Tango has hosted numerous workshops for instructors visiting from Argentina and from other tango communities in North America. Francis is also appreciated as a music DJ at various milongas in Vancouver and beyond, with regular stints at international festivals. His most substantive influences have been, among others: Susana Miller, Alicia Pons and Anna-Maria Schapira, each a renowned teacher dedicated to conveying the essential spirit of the social dance culture of the milongueros of Buenos Aires. Eventually, the best “schooling” for a developing dancer is through immersion in the crowded dance halls frequented by the most seasoned and accomplished master milongueros, in the city that continues to function as the living heart of this evolving cultural tradition. Francis’ teaching is about preparing students to gain access to such a challenging environment. He focuses primarily on music interpretation and in finding a natural, well-grounded walk, a comfortable embrace and the means for subtle connection, so that one can enter into a musical dialogue of equals with a partner, together creating a dance that is spontaneous, expressive of genuine feeling, and deeply satisfying. Francis currently hosts El Centro’s Thursday evening practica at EDAM Studio. For more information, click on the icons below to connect to El Centro Tango’s profile on Facebook or e-mail:
